Ultrasonic cleaner sizes — which litre capacity do you need?
Choose the smallest tank your largest part fits in, fully under the liquid, with clearance on every side. Misonics builds ultrasonic cleaners from a PowerSonic benchtop to an UltraMax HX bundle tank. Parts up to 250 mm long suit the PS 603 to PS 610 PowerSonic machines; up to 490 mm, the MSX 15 and MSX 30 bench machines; up to 900 mm, the MSX 50 to MSX 240 floor range. Larger parts go to EvoSonic or UltraMax, quoted to site.
Benchtop to plant-scale: what changes at each size
A benchtop bath and a plant-scale tank are different machines, bought for different work. Frequency, bath control and handling all change with size. Compare suppliers within the same class, not across them.
| Class | Typical tank | Typical parts | Frequency | Bath control | Handling | Misonics range |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Benchtop | 3–30 L | Small parts, electronics, laboratory ware, injectors, carburettors | 40 kHz; 25/45 kHz dual on the MSX bench machines | Static bath with heater and drain | By hand, in a basket | PowerSonic, MSX 15 and MSX 30 |
| Workshop floor | 50–240 L | Gearbox and engine parts, cylinder heads, hydraulic components, moulds | 25 kHz | Weir, filtration and oil separation | Basket by hand or hoist | MSX 50 to MSX 240 |
| Heavy industrial | 180–10,000 L | Engine blocks, transmissions, mining and rail components, filter elements | 25 kHz; 28 or 40 kHz on UltraTecno | Weir, filtration, oil skimming; kidney-loop filtration as an option | Lifting platform or crane, lids (lift and auto lids optional) | EvoSonic, EvoSonic Heavy, UltraTecno ACM |
| Automated | 70–355 L chambers | Precision and validated cleaning for pharmaceutical, aerospace and precision manufacture | 25 kHz | Wash, rinse and dry in one logged recipe | Automatic, one operator | UltraWash |
| Plant-scale | 12,000–46,000 L | Heat exchanger and tube bundles, large assemblies | 28 or 40 kHz | Filtration sized to the bundle | Crane | UltraMax HX |
Where Misonics sits. Misonics supplies every class, from benchtop baths to plant-scale bundle tanks. The MSX 50 to MSX 240 are designed and assembled in Australia. EvoSonic and UltraMax HX are Misonics designs, built with our manufacturing partners, and UltraTecno ACM machines are supplied by Misonics. Every machine is commissioned and serviced by Misonics in Australia.
What separates an industrial tank from a big bath: a steel wall thick enough for years of cavitation, power rated for sustained duty, a weir and filtration that keep oil off the part, lifting and guarding for heavy baskets, controls an operator can run, and commissioning on site. The questions to ask at each step.
Tank litres and basket size
Model names and headline litres describe the tank. They do not tell you whether your part fits. Each machine has two published figures, and they answer different questions.
Tank volume is the whole tank, including the pockets that carry the resonators, heaters and platform. Basket size and working depth are the space the part actually has, and they decide fit.
| Model | Tank volume | Basket (L × W) | Working depth |
|---|---|---|---|
| PowerSonic PS 620 | 20 L | 440 × 250 mm | 100 mm |
| MSX 15 | 15 L | 320 × 225 mm | 130 mm |
| MSX 30 | 30 L | 490 × 235 mm | 140 mm |
| MSX 50 | 50 L | 500 × 300 mm | 300 mm |
Read across the rows. The PS 620 has the larger tank, 20 L against 15 L, but the MSX 15 holds 30 mm more liquid over its basket, so a taller part fits the smaller-litre machine. The MSX 30 and MSX 50 baskets are within 10 mm of each other in length, yet the MSX 50 has more than twice the working depth. A part has to sit in the basket, fully under the liquid, with clearance. Size from the part, not the litres.
All specifications, including dimensions, ultrasonic power and volume, are confirmed at quotation.

Dimensions are the published basket and working-depth figures. EvoSonic sizes between these rows are in the EvoSonic table above. Clearance, part weight and how the part will be fixtured all change the answer, so send the part envelope with your enquiry.
Sizing questions
Can a benchtop ultrasonic cleaner do industrial work?
For small parts, yes. For heavy or oily parts, no. A benchtop bath has no weir or filtration, so oil stays on the surface and goes back on the part, and its power is not rated for all-day duty. Heavy work needs a floor or heavy industrial tank with a weir, filtration and lifting.
Who supplies large industrial ultrasonic cleaning tanks in Australia?
Misonics supplies heavy industrial and plant-scale ultrasonic tanks from 180 L to 46,000 L, with weirs, filtration, lifting and controls, commissioned and serviced on site in Australia. Compare large tank suppliers on the machine you need, not on their benchtop range.

Filter element cleaning — recovered, not replaced
Pall pleated stainless mesh candle elements, blinded solid with carbonised residue, cleaned through the full depth of the pleat pack and put back in the housing. One hour, one bath, nothing mechanical near the mesh.
