Spanish-built heavy-duty ultrasonic cleaners, supplied and serviced in Australia

UltraTecno have been building industrial ultrasonic cleaning machines in Valencia for over fifty years. We bring in the ACM range: nine sizes from 405 to 5,881 litres, all running at 28 kHz, all fitted with a pneumatic platform lift that agitates the load while it cleans.

Every machine is quoted, delivered, commissioned and serviced by Misonics.

The platform lift

We only bring in the machines with the lift

UltraTecno build the same tank in two versions. The ACM has a pneumatic platform lift. The ICM does not. We stock the ACM only, and this is why.

Loading

Parts go on at bench height

The platform rises to the rim of the tank. Parts are set down on it, the lid closes, the platform lowers. Nobody reaches into a bath at 85 °C, and nobody lifts a cylinder head over a tank wall. On a machine that cycles all day this matters more than the datasheet suggests.

The lift carries 250 kg on the smallest machine and 1,800 kg on the largest.

Agitation

The load moves while the sonics run

The platform travels up and down through the cycle. That movement stops soil settling back onto the part and pushes fresh fluid through blind holes, water jackets and cores. UltraTecno measure the improvement on complex parts at around 50 per cent.

Park the platform at the bottom and run without agitation and static capacity is roughly double the lift rating.

Where the lift earns nothing: open castings, plate, frames and single heavy items that drain freely. If that is all you clean, say so in the enquiry. There is a cheaper machine and we will tell you about it rather than sell you a lift you will never use.

Manufacturer figures, September 2024 specification sheet. Volume is the main tank. Each machine also carries an auxiliary tank of 54 to 878 litres for oil separation. Ultrasonic power comes in 1 kW transducer sets, so a 5 kW machine has five plates of sixteen transducers. Supply is 400 V 50/60 Hz, three phase and neutral. Figures are confirmed at quotation. The ACM-3000NW is a wide, short version of the ACM-3000N for bulky parts that will not fit a long narrow tank.

Engine parts, moulds, exchangers, filters

Engine rebuildCylinder heads and blocks, pistons, con-rods, sumps, turbo housings. Automotive, truck, marine, rail and power generation.
Heat exchangers and filtersPlate packs, tube bundles, oil coolers, DPFs (diesel particulate filters) and cartridge filters. The soil sits inside the part where a pressure washer cannot reach it.
Moulds and toolingInjection moulds, foundry and die-cast tooling, vents and cooling channels. No abrasives and no bead blasting, so the tool keeps its dimensions.
Mining and heavy plantHydraulic components, gearbox cases, transmission and final drive parts. Usually caked in oil and dust by the time they reach the workshop.
Paint and coating removalHooks, jigs, racks, grids and fixtures. Stripped chemically with the ultrasonics doing the work, instead of a burn-off oven.
General workshopAnything the shop currently degreases by hand. On most jobs the labour is the cost, not the machine.

Size of the work

The part decides the tank

A turbine rotor, a locomotive block, a bundle off a heat exchanger. The tank is chosen around the biggest thing you need to put in it, with clearance for the tray and the lift. Give us the largest part and its weight and the model picks itself.

State of the part

How dirty is dirty

Carbon, baked oil, casting sand, paint, scale. What is on the part sets the chemistry, the temperature and the cycle time, and it is the reason we run a trial before quoting rather than after.

Why 28 kHz. A lower frequency makes larger cavitation bubbles. They hit harder and clear heavy carbon and grease off cast surfaces faster. They are also less suited to fine polished work than 40 kHz. For engine, mould and exchanger work 28 kHz is the right choice. If your parts are delicate, ask us about a 40 kHz machine instead.

Fifty years, and about 3,000 installations

UltraTecno have been building ultrasonic cleaning equipment since 1964 and put the number of industrial installations at more than 3,000. Among the operations they list as running their machines are Renfe and SNCF, Caterpillar, Deutz and MAN Diesel & Turbo, Ford, Valeo, TRW and Nemak, Eaton, Alcoa and Metso, BP and Statoil, and Goltens and TruMarine on the marine side.

Made in ValenciaMachines are designed and built in Spain, not assembled from imported parts. UltraTecno make the generators and the transducer plates themselves, do their own stainless welding, and build and program their own electrical panels.

How they are built

Four things worth knowing

Synchronised generatorsIGBT digital generators. One control card synchronises every 1 kW power card, so the plates do not cancel each other out inside the tank. Sweep frequency runs at ±2 per cent to break up standing waves. Fifteen power levels, eight sweep modes, and a stop-go mode for degassing a fresh bath.
Oil separation, LFSBath liquid flows to an auxiliary tank where the oil separates out and a floating skimmer draws it off. Taking oil out continuously is what makes a bath last months instead of weeks. On a machine this size the chemistry is the running cost.
Noise, ARFA 28 kHz machine is loud. UltraTecno's acoustic filter, 50 mm of insulation and a sealed 30 mm lid hold it under 78 dB(A). Low enough to run in an occupied workshop without hearing protection becoming a policy question.
MaterialsSS304 tank in 3 mm plate. SS316 transducer plates, mirror polished so cavitation does not erode the face. Ceramic heaters inside stainless housings. Transducers oven-bonded at 180 °C with aeronautical adhesive and rated to 110 °C. Plates are flanged, so they can be replaced.

Transducers

Sixteen to a plate

Each 1 kW plate carries sixteen ceramic transducers in phosphor-bronze and silver, oven-cured so nothing is lost in the bond line. The plates are mounted on the side walls rather than the floor, so cleaning power does not drop off as sludge builds up in the bottom of the tank.

Controls

Manual mode and three preset cycles. Programmable heating and ultrasound timers. A night eco mode that drops the bath temperature out of hours. Detergent calculator, hour counter, start counter and a live electricity consumption readout. The maintenance scheduler prompts filter and valve service at whatever interval you set.

Options

Six worth costing in at the start

Bag filtrationA 20 inch stainless housing with a recirculation pump, 10 to 100 µm. Keeps particulate out of the bath and off clean parts. Usually the first option we recommend.
Automatic water top-upSmall, frequent refills as the bath evaporates. Level and chemistry stay stable without an operator watching the tank.
Hybrid heatingPre-heats from your existing hot water circuit to 60–75 °C. Electric elements only take it the last stretch. Around 70 per cent of the heat load comes off cheaper energy.
Automatic lid and loading pedalFor a machine cycling all shift. One press raises the load, stops the ultrasonics and opens the lid.
Steam extractionPerimeter extraction paired with the automatic lid, so an 85 °C bath does not put a cloud into the workshop every time it opens.
Ethernet and SCADAOPC-UA (Open Platform Communications Unified Architecture) connection into plant monitoring, with remote diagnostics back to the factory.
