The upgrade from the parts bucket
A degreaser bucket and a toothbrush gets a cassette maybe 70% clean. A benchtop ultrasonic gets the chain, cassette and rings factory-clean in fifteen minutes — and does your carby, injectors and restoration parts on the weekend they need it.

What the home bench actually uses it for
Chain, cassette and chainrings in the basket, hot degreaser, 10–15 minutes: wax-ready, watt-saving clean — including the rollers and link internals no brush enters. Waxers: this is the prep the wax instructions assume.
A gummed mower carby, motorcycle carbs off a winter project, a set of injectors — stripped, basketed and cleaned through the drillings, at home, without the workshop bill. For weekly trade volume, that is MSX territory — this is the home tool.
Vintage hardware, model engines, printer parts, tools, hardware by the tray — the machine cleans while you get on with the build.
Rinse the chemistry off, inhibitor on bare steel (it flash rusts the same day), dry, reassemble.
What goes in the basket
Why serious hobbyists buy one
Clean you can measure
Drivetrain friction is real watts and real wear — a properly clean chain runs quieter, shifts crisper and lasts longer, and wax adhesion depends on it.
Inside the part, not just on it
Carby jets, chain rollers, injector galleries — cavitation cleans the internals that define whether the thing actually works afterwards.
One tank, every hobby
The same machine serves the bikes, the mower, the project car parts and the 3D-printer plates. Few tools in the shed earn their bench space harder.
